Design Wall Monday

I don’t actually have my design wall up at the moment.  It is big and cumbersome, so I only put it up when I have a big project to be assembled.  So this is actually a “Design Table Monday” I suppose ;*)

The project on my Design Table is my Oriental Peacock, which is my #5 UFO for the 2012 UFO Challenge.  It is one of the last projects I started and failed to finish last year.  This is the main fabric…..

Love?  Oh yes, I do!!!  I hope these pictures do it justice.  I couldn't resist this glorious peacock on my last visit to Mary Jo’s in Gastonia, North Carolina.  I was at the end of my trip and had already stopped at several quilt shops on my way into Carolina several days earlier.  My mind was made up, no more spending… maybe just a few fat quarters.  But my mind went numb when I saw this peacock!  There was no way I wasn't getting it!

I had no idea what I was going to do with it except that it would have to be a medallion-style quilt, keeping the entire peacock intact.  Then a few friends in my sewing group suggested a friend braid border around it, which hit just the perfect note.  I chose a pattern from the book French Braid Obsession by Jane Hardy Miller. These are all the fabrics together, and what I have done so far on the braid runs.  I will be working on this today with my sewing buddies group and hope to get the braid runs completed.  So far, I’m a happy camper!!!

I also just completed the top for a wall quilt for February called Keep the Heart Truth Growing by Jane Spolar.  It is a free pattern on the Janome website.  I'm hoping to get it quilted & bound by the end of the week.  This will be a good chance for me to practice my FMQ!
