Slow Sunshiny Day Stitching

Source:  Pinterest - http://happythings.tumblr.com

Oh how GLORIOUS!!!
The sun is shining so beautifully here today!
There is a nice crisp breeze and it is COLD, but I am just so delighted to see the sun!!!
I've missed you so much my friend :*)

I would like to report that I have finished another block for the Promises & Borders quilt!!!

Working on these blocks is like walking through molasses - with an alligator stalking you.  I LOVE the designs and the finished quilt is going to be a favorite, no question about it.  But I'm tired of working on the blocks and I'm having to enforce some pretty strict discipline to make myself work on the blocks instead of playing with something new.  Any of you have that problem?  Nah, I didn't think so LOL!!!

The good news is that I only have one more of the main blocks to do, and it should be a quick one to finish up....

After this one, I will only have the long narrow piece that says, "A Promise is a Promise" with two little birds on each side.  Then I can assemble the quilt - whoohoo!!!!

Encouraging support will be greatly appreciated =^..^=

Today I'm joining Kathy at Kathy's Quilts in some Slow Sunday Stitching.  I plan to work on getting the next hand applique block prepped for The Blue Collection, since I am well over half-way done with the current one.  This quilt is now moving along like a freight train and I love it!  I began work on it about 6 years ago, and it puttered along veeeerrrrrryyyyyyy slowly while I struggled to learn how to hand applique in a way that would do it justice.  Now that I've discovered the starch method the blocks seem to be working up in nano-time and falling like dominoes!  The end is clearly in sight and I definitely have a renewed energy to work on it.

That being said, I am entering the tricky part of the quilt now.  This pot is the block I am preparing today.  It holds the focal tree that goes from top to bottom of the center of the quilt.  The tree will be three-dimensional by making tubes that are then stitched down on top of the quilt.  Once this block is done, leaving an opening to insert the tree ends, I will begin sewing the inside section blocks together.... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all the blocks fit and play together with each other nicely!

Stay tuned.....this could get interesting :*D

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday!
This is the day that the LORD has made!
We will rejoice and be glad in it!!!

Hugs & Blessings!
Teresa

  1. The applique block sounds very challenging, so I say you should work on something easier/mindless and just relax and finish up your alligator molasses project! How's that for an encouraging suggestion?!??!
Thanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!

  5. You are doing a great job at working on your blocks. I know that you will complete them. Since I wouldn't have even started on the blocks - No - I would not have the same problem!! LOL

  6. I've loved every Promises and Borders block you have shown. Great scriptures and beautifully delicate little stitchery designs. Have you ever shown what the finished quilt looks like--is there a good shot of it on the pattern? Just curious.
I did look at the final outcome for the Blue Collection quilt. Wow--I've always been glad it was you doing the applique and not me. When I look at what lies ahead of you I am doubly glad. It will be a monumental finish, Teresa, and I have complete faith in your ability to pull it off! : )

  8. Just out of curiosity, what about the P&B blocks it tiring you? They really are so pretty! I haven't started on those yet -- namely because I have a half a dozen *other* started projects that I'm having to 'discipline' myself to finish -- and want to be prepared if I do start them! I'm really going to have to give the starch method a try. You want to come to our guild meeting in June and demonstrate? We're doing a round robin style program of different applique techniques. It would be fun! :)

  9. Jenny let me use her first block's border to make mini wedding quilts. I have decided that I don't embroidery correctly. I guess I need a book so that I can learn the correct stitches before I try on anything else. Your's is lovely. Love those flowers under the red bows. Only a tiny bit to go, you can do it!
