Design Wall Monday - Catch-up Style!!!

There are so many things to do now that Sara has gone home!!!

Not only do I have to get back into reading all my favorite blogs, but all my projects are screaming for attention!

This is why my Design Wall is in two pieces....

I often have to get behind it to get into my stash closets :)  No work has been done on my Blooming Nine-Patch this week, and I really want to get that next color up there.  These strips are just waiting patiently to be sewn up and made into delicious 9-patches - YUM!!!

You can see tons of wonderful projects in progress at Judy's Patchwork Times today!

My next priority is to make sure I am ready for several classes for the below quilt that I will be teaching soon.....the bright and beautiful Amish Beauties!

Then I have TWO Bertie's Year blocks that desperately need attention....

Yep, they've been languishing!  I've got them fused down, but not yet stitched down.  And I was doing so well at keeping up!  And I got an email that the next one is already on it's way - yikes!

I want to make a See-N-Go Project Bag  - from these gorgeous scraps (you can see mine HERE and get your FREE pattern from Jacquelynne Steve's Summer E-magazine - also FREE - HERE!) to match my Stitchery Keeper - see more about it HERE.

And then I have "just a few" other projects that are calling my name LOL!!!

This month is Light and Lime Greens for the Rainbow Challenge over at SoScrappy, and I don't need to make any more green blocks so I'll take a break from that this month.  Hopefully that will give me time to catch up on some of these more pressing projects :)

So I know you're wondering if we got everything made for Sara before she left, right?  Yep, we did!  And then some, because I did some repairs on several of her pieces of clothing the night before she left :)

The Foxy Shorts turned out really, really cute!

I was a little nervous about making the Woodland Creatures PJ's.  It had been quite a while since I did any apparel sewing and working with these new-fangled all-in-one patterns was a little bit of a challenge at first...

And working with jersey knit fabric again - let me just say UGH!!!

But they really did turn out cute and very, very comfy!!!

And Sara finished up her second pillowcase - cupcakes for her sister Emma!

Yesterday morning we met her father and sister halfway between Nashville and Monroe NC to get her on her way back home so she can begin getting ready for school.  They start on August 26 there.  On the way, Sara finished up the little cuddle rag quilt I made the night before for Miss Link by snipping all the edges to make them ruffle when they are washed ....

As you can see below, Miss Link was a huge help - LOL!!!

It turned out really cute and I enjoyed sewing up those scraps and getting them out of my stash!  Sara will wash it and make it all raggy and cuddly today :)

It was so much fun to have her here ... and teaching her to sew was a privilege I never thought I would have.  What a blessing!!!  And I really want to thank you all for listening to my posts about her visits :)  But it was really strange to wake up this morning and see her room empty :(  That will take a few days to get used to I'm guessing.  But my guess is that Gypsy is not missing Miss Link even one little bit!!!!

What do you think?
Oh - if cats could talk, we'd all be in trouble!!!!!

Hugs & Blessings!
Teresa

  2. I haven't sewn with knits in a long time. All the projects coming and going are just wonderful - love that pile of blue!

  3. I've been enjoying your posts about Sara's visit. I have an almost 10 year old "granddaughter" (we pretend) who would love for me to teach her to sew but health problems have kept me from it. You've inspired me to try harder to make it happen. I don't think Gypsy is giving you stink eyes ... just luxuriating in the sun without a care in the world that she will be interrupted by a pesky puppy!
My Rudy (Gypsy's look-alike) is making the pile of cushions (that should be on the deck) his home for almost all his naps. He has been dubbed "the Prince and the Pea". What a life our precious pets have.

  4. The shorts and pj's are so cute! How wonderful that you were able to teach Sara to sew. That's something she will remember forever... as will you. Your projects are wonderful. Can't wait to see your progress on the blooming nine patch. Happy Quilting!

  5. The shorts and PJ turned out gorgeous. I forget how nice it is to sew clothing sometimes. I spy some fabric from many years ago which is in a quilt which is languishing as a UFO (Just needs quilting) in my quilt closet. I bet the house is very quiet. It was like that for a long time after the little boys moved out.

  6. Looks like all the projects for Sara and Miss Link turned out beautifully! It has been so much fun reading a bout your adventures together! I bet it does seem kind of empty in the house now though. Looks like Gypsy is pleased a punch!

  7. I thought your design wall was disguising your stash so no one would break in and steal it!! : )
What a wonderful post--lots of yummy projects, a cute girl and her dog, a haughty cat--what more could you ask? *LOL*

  9. What a fun time you two had in the sewing room this summer. I am so glad you have the time & patience to teach Sara how to sew. It will be a life skill she will always have---did you check your stash before she left??? LOL

  10. I tried sewing a couple of garments over the last 3-4 years - never again! Ugh! I kept wanting to sew a quarter inch seam plus the patterns, as you mentioned, are awfully cumbersome nowadays. I'll restrict my sewing to piecing, thankyouverymuch!

I'm sure your house seems so empty with Sara gone. What wonderful memories you two made.

I wish I were closer ... I'd love to take a class from you, especially your Amish Beauties!

  11. I'm sure the house will seem very different for quite awhile, but what an exciting time you had with her. It will be fun to see what she continues to create.

I'm taking a break from the limes this month too. Have fun with all of your other projects.

  13. What wonderful projects, especially the vibrant colors on your design wall!! Your pj's look quite comfy and congrats on persevering with sewing knit fabrics, ugh. That's so neat that you were able to teach Sara how to sew and maybe a new quilter will be joining us? You're so right about cats and if they could talk, hmmmm, would we want to hear it ;-)

  14. Love all the projects, but when I sew garments I'll only work with cotton- unless I already HAVE other fabric, which is not much
