So, here is my Soul Searching block in AQUAs - YUUUUUMMMMMM!!!!!!
I really love mixing up the fabrics in these blocks, from well-behaved little dots, to color saturated batiks, to wild patterns and designs.... it doesn't matter as long as the color is right :*) Surprisingly enough, I had quite a bit of trouble finding enough fabrics of the right color for this block! I thought I had tons of fabrics in this color......
....but it turns out many of them were greeny teals, powder blues, medium blues, too much white in them .... very few were actually just AQUA. I did add some of the bluey-teals for interest, but I really wanted it to be primarily the blue aquas. I think it finally turned out perfect, but I had to hunt down those last few fabrics :*)
I've decided to use this monthly RSC to help me work through washing my stash. Every month, as Angela announces a color, I have been washing all of my fabrics in that color. It took me 3 days to wash all the fabrics in this color - wow!!!
From the very sweet lights....
to the bright, happy mediums....
and finally the rich, vibrant darks....
And the best part is, I didn't have to buy a single piece of fabric - yay!!! I did pull a few of my scraps out, but these Soul Searching blocks are primarily made from my stash. I'm making other blocks each month from my scraps, like sweet little Hootie :*)
I had to laugh when I opened up this fat quarter though.... is it still a fat quarter, or is it a scrap now? Too funny!
I remember wanting to be very exact in the design on that circle when I made that project LOL!!!
Here is my cabinet with the empty shelves waiting for all the freshly laundered aqua/teal fabrics to be stashed back on them....
This week I'll trace and prepare the fusible pieces for the AQUA Hootie, so look for him to make his debut next Saturday :*)

Hugs & Blessings!

Great looking block. Love the idea of washing stash for the monthly color.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a happy month for you, my friend!!
ReplyDeletePretty funny about the missing circle. : )
I love aqua teals too. I love the cupcake fabric. It looks like it would be so sweet to fussy cut a cupcake for a special block. Great block.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful block Teresa. I am still searching my stash for enough of the right color, but thankfully I have all my fabrics pre-washed already. That happens BEFORE any of them go on my shelves. I did work on cutting a few of the pieces while on retreat, but still need lots more variety.
ReplyDeleteFantastic selection of teal fabrics!
ReplyDeleteYour block is beautiful. Wow. Your stash collection is full of beautiful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly picked the right fabrics. My mother's favorite color was aqua. She thought everyone looked great in aqua. She would have been 95 this Monday. Wow! I shudder when I think about the number of students she influenced in all the years she taught. And then Wednesday her great grandson that she never saw will turn three. He and his brother are both miracle babies. They both were preemies and neither have a sign of it. The doctor told my daughter the second one would not be a preemie and he came even earlier than the first and only weighed 3 lb and 2 oz. I can hardly wait until June when I get to go see them when Mom and Dad take a much deserved vacation. Can you tell I'm excited? And all that comes just from the mention of aqua. I have a picture with one of them in an aqua shirt that I'm looking at right now - lol.
ReplyDeleteThe block turned out lovely. Another blog was asking about the light strips being black on white I told them that yours were fabulous.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous block ... of course when I read that aqua is this month's color, I immediately thought of you! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour search for true aqua has reminded me of the frustrations I faced when searching for royal blues for my Storm at Sea. ;-)
Beautiful block. So glad you found just the right colors for your block. Looks like you could make a few more from that huge collection you washed. Wow!
ReplyDeleteLove the block and the color - aqua & teal make up a large portion of my stash too!
ReplyDeleteYour aquas are beautiful!! I love the idea of washing the color of the month. That is so much less intimidating than doing it all at once.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your fantastic aqua stash! One of my favorites too!
ReplyDeleteYou gotta love aqua or turquoise. You have a lovely assortment of fabrics Teresa. Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt in aqua.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful fabrics you have... yum and yum!
ReplyDeleteOooh - serious stash envy! What a lovely collection!
ReplyDeleteuhhh a HOOTIE??? hmmm I want to see!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful aquas, and I love your block! What a great idea to wash by color!
ReplyDeleteI love the array of aquas together -- it's such a yummy color! I had to giggle at the hole...I find FQs all the time like that. Silly us! :)
ReplyDeleteTeresa, your soul searching blocks are beautiful, I love the aqua with the black and white. What a wonderful stash of aqua you have.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great collection of aqua/teals. You are so organized and well planned. It must be fun "shopping" in the stash for new project fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYou've got some gorgeous aquas. It's such a pretty color, I'm trying to figure out why I don't have much in the stash.
ReplyDeleteYum indeed! They look great with the black and white
ReplyDeleteSo visually stunning Teresa! I am shocked you had "problems" finding what would work too???? This color is right up your alley! Do you wash your fabric in a lingerie bag or something? Every time I have washed fabrics the strings get EVERYWHERE!!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful selection of fabric you have!
ReplyDeleteI think you need a few months of Aqua to play with all those gorgeous fabrics. Love your blocks so far and looking forward to seeing hootie next week.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty block in one of my favorite colors as you can see in my now-finished-but-not-dry shawl. Can't wait to see the next Hootie!
ReplyDeleteYou have the best stash ever!! I'm a little jealous! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying following your block progress but I'm having trouble finding the pattern you're using. Is it in the newest Material Obsession book? I have her first 2 but when I saw the newest one was $40 I was a little hesitant to buy it at such a steep price...especially since I really am only looking for the pattern you girls are using for this challenge. Any help would be appreciated.
