Sew Sweet Simplicity Block!
Block #4 |
I didn't get to play along on Catching Up Day a few weeks ago, because that was the weekend I was at the hospital with my mom. But I did peek in a few times and it looked like you were all having a great time. I especially loved seeing Jacquelynne dancing!!!
It felt good to get home and finally be able to work on my Block #4 :*) This little Laurel Burch kitty has a little bit of a sad face, don't you think?
But I fell in love with her colors, and she kept telling me she wanted to be surrounded by bright pink. Now everyone knows that when a cat tells you something it wants, you listen and obey. Period. So I did.
...... and I think she already looks happier, don't you? I'm pretty sure Gypsy would be proud of me =^..^=
And speaking of Gypsy, the other day I went outside to pick up the mail and saw our neighbor's white cat sitting smack dab in the middle of our rose garden - right on top of our sweet Gypsy's resting place. I asked her if she was visiting Gypsy, and she calmly sat there looking at me as if to say, "Well, of course. Duh! What else would I be doing sitting in the middle of your rose garden?" Yes, she had that look on her face that all cats wear signifying their universal opinion of our poor human intelligence :*)
=^..^=
But before I can start on them, I have to make a decision. If you look at my design wall below, you can see the four completed SSS blocks all together on the bottom right.....
Do you notice what I see? The block on the bottom left really does not fit with the others! The corner squares are black instead of a color like the others. Hmmmmm....
So, I have a few choices here. I've already decided to redo the center section with the cat, taking out the color bands around her. It just takes away from her sweet face too much, and I think having just the black around it, like the other blocks, will bring it out visually. Then I can either redo the corners of the block and call it good, or I can make at least one of the Bonus Blocks have black corners as well. *cue Final Jeopardy music* Tune in friends to find out the conclusion of this nail-biting mystery !!!!
GIVEAWAY!!!! As with each of our previous three Sew Sweet Simplicity QAL events, Jacquelynne is offering another wonderful PDF package of her patterns for a giveaway to one lucky reader!!!
I just love both of these patterns! Jacquelynne has such a wonderful sense of design, so sweet and feminine, but with lots of color and visual impact! If you'd like to win this package, just leave a comment on this post telling me if you have ever done wool applique and whether or not you like it. Easy-peasy!!! The giveaway is open to all readers, domestic and international, and will be open until midnight on Monday, February 2, 2015. BE SURE I HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!!!
If you are sewing along with us, please share your blocks on Jacquelynne's Facebook page HERE. You can also share on Twitter and Instagram by using the hashtag #sewsweetsimplicity. We all want to see them so we can oooooohh and aaaaahhhh, right?
Have a lovely week my friends!!!
Hugs & Blessings!
Teresa

So much fun happening on your design wall!
ReplyDeleteBut I do see what you mean about the black corners. I think I would switch the corners when redoing the block. I like the secondary, chain-like pattern created with the colored blocks in the corners. Just MHO. : )
Yes, I absolutely do wool applique, but probably won't need anymore patterns for several years now. Though these are very pretty, you needn't include me.
Beautiful blocks Teresa and isn't it interesting what we see when we use a design wall? I can't wait to see what you decide to do with that block, I love Laurel Birch fabrics too and how sweet that the neighbor cat was sitting on Gypsy's grave visiting.
DeleteI was hesitant to try wool appliqué as I am allergic to wool, it makes me itch something fierce and welts! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteHowever a darling kit called out to me and I couldn't resist. I love working with wool and wool blend felts! And they don't make me itchy!
Yes I've worked with wool and love those patterns. I see what you mean about your block but had a thought, since you still have the 2 bonus blocks to make, you might be able to match that odd man block with the black corners. It looks so festive and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI haven'[t done any wool applique yet but do have a kit waiting for me to take the time and sit down with it. I love what's on your design wall, a mini quilt show. As far as the black corners on the one block I wait to see what you come up.
ReplyDeleteThe only wool applique I've tried was a small demo piece when we had a guild program on the topic. I could be tempted.... Meanwhile: your Laurel Burch kitties do look very happy to be the centers of attention in those vibrant blocks!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried to do any wool appliqué before! But I sure would like to start now!!! I think you should make one of the last blocks with a black corner.
ReplyDeleteI have never done wool appliqué but I'm working on a kit that includes it. Just finished the piecing, next step is the appliqué.
ReplyDeleteYour newest cat is wonderful. The colors are so much fun.
ReplyDeleteMy two cents worth - make one of the bonus blocks with black corners, and it will look like a fine design element! Your blocks are lovely! I've never tried wool applique, but lots of my friends have. Something for my To Do List - they make gorgeous items!
ReplyDeleteI made a wool runner before Christmas and loved it. Hopefully, I will get around to working on another wool project. Your blocks are lovely and I'd make one of the bonus blocks with black corners to solve your dilemma.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE your center fabric. The colorful cats are gorgeous, as are your blocks. I never noticed the black cornerstones, but you did and they'll bother you. I hate deconstructing a block for something like that, but I've done it a lot! cdahlgren at live dot com
ReplyDeleteYour colour choices are stunning.
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa...loving all your WIP...great colors! Where do I find the pattern for those owls and the blocks on the far left? Beautiful!

ReplyDeleteI have not tried any wool applique yet.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done wool applique yet. I imagine it might be more forgiving than flat cotton fabric. Is that correct?
ReplyDeleteI really like your colorful, exuberant fabric choices for your Sew Simplicity blocks!
Your blocks are so fun! I love them! I have done wool applique and really enjoy it. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great, Teresa. In fact, all those blocks on your design wall are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, colorful blocks!
ReplyDeleteI've done one simple wool applique and am anxious to do more. I love your Laurel Burch kitties and you're right, you have to listen when the kitties talk to you. I had a similar experience that you had with Gypsy's visitor. The neighbor cat was over in our yard where Sara is buried and Rudy, who didn't much care if the cat was in the yard, was adamant that he not be near her grave and let him know it. How did he know that Sara detested him - especially when he would nuzzle her daddy - and would scream at him through the window. We got Rudy 6 weeks after Sara had died so it really amazed me that he was so protective of her peace.
ReplyDeleteYour colors are all so exquisite, for every project! I'm so envious of your vision. I've never worked with felted wool, just felt. But I would really like to someday.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilts. I have never done wool applique but I love the look of it.
ReplyDeleteI have not done wool applique. It does look nice though.

ReplyDeleteI have never tried wool appliqué which surprised even me as I do like having handwork. I bought a small kit at my last quilt show and hope to have a few minutes or more to get it out and give it a try.

ReplyDeleteDon't you hate it when you've finished piecing a project and are ready to assemble and you realize you don't like the way they play together?? I've been there more than once. I love your latest block and yes, she looks much happier in her new setting!! :)

ReplyDeleteYour blocks are beautiful and I like Pretty Pink kitty. I'm not sure I would change the block or just make the bonus blocks match the corners of the odd one. I know it will be beautiful whatever you do. It is amazing what cats can sense. I'm sure she was visiting Gypsy.
ReplyDeleteLove your vibrant blocks. I have admired wool work for years and would really like to try it - I love working with felt making toys etc and things for my grandchildren - appliques etc. I also really love handwork so I think I will enjoy wool work.

Teresa, your design wall makes me very happy. :) I love looking at it!
ReplyDeleteHaven't tried wool applique .your blocks are beautiful . Would be nice to be a winner.
ReplyDeleteREALLY LOVE what you did with the Laurel Burch fabrics (love her stuff). My 2 cents worth is to make a couple of the corners of the blocks you haven't made yet in black, so they blend in with the ones that have colors in the corners. Not sure how that will look when you put it on the design wall, but seems to be the easiest fix for you.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE wool applique! I've really gotten addicted to it and that's all I seem to want to do anymore!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the beautiful giveaway -

ReplyDeleteWow! Talk about gorgeous work. I love how you have used the colourful Laurel Burch fabric to such spectacular success. Now on to the pertinent part. I have never tried wool applique, although I adore trying new things. LOL! In actual fact I have not even finished my first quilt. I have to admit that I would love to win such a lovely prize, the timing is serendipitous, my wedding anniversary is on February 2nd. I am not sure how other people are supplying you their email addresses so this will have to do for me: gilshallos at outlook.com. Thank you for this opportunity. 😊
ReplyDeleteI have never tried wool applique but did buy a small kit to try during the Row By Row this summer when I visited a small quilt shop and fell in love with some of her work. Love your version of SSS and am anxious to see how you pull it all together.
